Pediatric First Aid Certification

In 2009 new laws were enacted in the New York State and other states across the US targeting the child care industry. These include child care providers, baby sitters, pre schools, camps, day care centers, children hospitals, and others responsible for children have to be First Aid certified. Because these candidates had to specialize in children and infants the AHA has developed a program specific to this group- Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid.

Q: What is Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid?
A: The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Course is a credentialed course recognized in New York State that teaches child care providers how to manage illnesses and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.

Q: Who is the target audience for this course?
A: The primary target audience for this course is people in the childcare industry such as day care centers, nursery centers, pre- and elementary schools. However we know that there are other groups that are in need of this same certification as well such as coaches, activity and recreation leaders, dance and gymnastics instructors, parents, scout leaders, foster care workers, adoptive and foster parents, and others responsible for children.

A: The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Course covers basic first aid actions for infants and children.

    Eye injuries, fever, snake and poisonous spider, tick and marine animal bites, scorpion stings, and suspected abuse Asthma Care Training for Childcare Providers

A: The core modules for First Aid can be taught in 2.5 to 3 hours depending upon the size of the group.
